Playoffs Game 4: April 2 vs. Red Deer

April 2, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

@ REBELS : The Tigers and Rebels have not had any offense in this series as it continues to be tight checking and physical series. In three games so far, there have only been 7 goals scored, with the Tigers holding the 4-3 advantage. The Rebels took Game 3 last night as Marek Langhamer and Trevor Cox will look to get one back heading to Game 5 in Medicine Hat Saturday.

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP:

With the loss last night, it was Medicine Hat's first regulation loss in 8 contests dating back to the regular season Rylan Toth recorded his first career WHL playoff victory in Red Deer's 2-1 victory last night Goaltenders Rylan Toth and Marek Langhamer have played in all 9 games against each other this season

PLAYOFF SERIES

Tigers lead Best of 7 series 2-1 HOME (2-0-0) AWAY (0-1-0)

TIGERS FAST FACTS:

Scoring first, the Rebels picked up their first lead of the series last night as the Tigers held the lead in the first two games Trevor Cox had his 9 game point streak snapped last night, meanwhile Cole Sanford is riding a 4 game point streak dating back to the final regular season home game Tigers goaltender Marek Langhamer has started the last 11 of 12 games for Medicine Hat, posting 3 shutouts in that span

LAST GAME: Another dramatic game against the Rebels took place Tuesday night as the series shifted back to Red Deer for Game 3. It sounds repetitious but it was another tight checking game between the two as the first 2 period only saw 1 goal, a Red Deer marker in the first period by Scott Feser. Both Rylan Toth and Marek Langhamer were on their game again, turning away 23 and 16 shots respectively. The masked men have played in all 9 games against each other, making a side rivalry and a good goaltender matchup. The third period saw two goals put up on the score sheet; Red Deer got the first tally just before the midway point of the period on a Wyatt Johnson marker. Cole Sanford would cut into the lead with 9 minutes left in the game, but it wasn't enough as the Rebels hung on for the 2-1 victory.

PUT THE TEAM ON THEIR BACK: During the playoffs and majority of the regular season each team relies on one guy or a duo of players to lead the team in scoring, defence or in net, for the Tigers Trevor Cox and Marek Langhamer have done just that. Cox was the WHL's leading scorer for majority of the second half and led the team with 109 points. Meanwhile Langhamer was his usual self leading the Tigers with 30 victories in goal and a stellar GAA with 2.81. If the Tigers are to have success this postseason, both players will have to continue to lead by example.
