Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
The Jupiter Hammerheads (13-6) extend their win streak to five games in walk-off fashion to defeat the Dunedin Blue Jays (9-10) by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Jordan McCants pinch-ran for Tony Bullard in the bottom of the 10th inning, stole third base on a double steal, and came in to score the winning run on a throwing error by Blue Jays catcher Maykel Minoso.
Jupiter got on the scoreboard first for the third consecutive game. In the bottom of the second inning with one out, John Cruz reached on an infield single. Two batters later, Bullard drove in Cruz on an RBI single to make it 1-0 in favor of the Hammerheads.
The score remained until the top of the fifth inning. Jupiter starting pitcher Thomas White surrendered a two-out walk and back-to-back singles which tied the ballgame 1-1. White finished the night with five innings pitched and allowed just the one run on four hits while striking out nine batters.
Both teams failed to get another run until the top of the 10th inning. With two outs and two men on base for Dunedin, Victor Arias drove in both runners on a two-RBI double to give Dunedin its first lead of the night at 3-1.
The Hammerheads responded in a big way in the bottom of the 10 inning. Brock Vradenburg was the placed runner at second base. Cruz hit his second single of the night to put runners at the corners. Ryan Ignoffo then hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-2 deficit scoring Vradenburg. Bullard followed that with his second hit of the night to put runners at first and second base. Manager Nelson Prada put McCants in to pinch run for Bullard representing the winning run. McCants advanced to second base on a fielder's choice off the bat of Cristhian Rodriguez. With two outs, McCants stole third base as part of a double steal. The throw from the Dunedin catcher Minoso went off of Colby Shade and went to the backstop allowing McCants to score the winning run giving the Hammerheads the 4-3 victory in 10 innings.
JT Mabry, Cruz, and Bullard each had two hits accounting for all of the six Jupiter hits in the ballgame. Nigel Belgrave (W, 1-0) allowed his first earned run of the season in the top of the 10th inning but recorded his first win of the season.
Game five of the six game series continues on Saturday, April 27 for Star Wars Night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium with first pitch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. Top Marlins prospect Noble Meyer (0-1, 8.00 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season on the mound for the Hammerheads looking for his first win.
