Hammerheads Sweep Doubleheader, Score 17 Runs in Game Two

The Jupiter Hammerheads sweep the doubleheader against the St. Lucie Mets at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Wednesday. The Hammerheads took the first game 3-2 and then turned up the offense winning the second game 17-0 in a shortened game due to lightning.

For the first game, Jupiter scored late runs in the sixth and seventh inning to complete the comeback and walk-off the Mets.

In the third inning, both teams broke the 0-0 score. The Mets tallied two runs before the Hammerheads responded with a run of their own. For Jupiter, it was a Torin Montgomery solo homer that cut the deficit in half. Montgomery's second homer of the season had an exit velocity of 111 MPH and traveled 432 feet.

In the sixth, Jupiter tied the game after a Jorge Caballero RBI single. Javier Sanoja would then be the hero in the seventh inning with a walk-off single. Brett Roberts would score as the dugout mobbed Sanoja to celebrate the win.

On the mound, Juan De La Cruz made his Hammerheads debut and pitched four strong innings. The 18-year-old struck out three batters and allowed two runs on the night. Jupiter's bullpen would pitch a scoreless three innings of relief. Manuel Media pitched two shutout innings before Zach McCambley made another rehab appearance.

In the second game, Jupiter's offense exploded with 17 runs and 15 hits. The scheduled seven-inning game was cut short due to lightning, but it didn't stop Jupiter's bats.

The Hammerheads tallied eight extra-base hits, including four triples. Three of those triples all came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Seven Hammerheads finished with a multi-hit game and six players finished with multiple RBIs.

At the plate, Sanoja led the charge going 2-4 with four RBIs to cap off his impressive game.

On the mound, Cole Kirschsieper earned his sixth win after throwing a complete game shutout for Jupiter. The lefty allowed just two hits on the evening.
