Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - Going into Friday's game the Hammerheads had just three wins when trailing after seven innings but the numbers didn't matter as Jupiter stormed back for five runs in the eighth inning to come away with a gutsy 8-5 victory over Daytona at Roger Dean Stadium.
After Jupiter surrendered the lead in the seventh inning it would have been easy for the team to lose focus, but the Sharks battled till the end.
Trailing 5-3 going into the bottom of the eighth frame, the Hammerheads rallied off of the third Daytona pitcher of the night, Starling Peralta, and got help from sloppy play by the Cubs.
Justin Bohn led off the inning and hit a grounder to the shortstop. When the throw by Marco Hernandez brought the first baseman off the bag, Bohn reached at first. Colin Moran then hit what appeared to be a routine fly ball to left, but Bijan Rademacher seemed to lose the ball in the twilight sky as it dropped in harmlessly for a double.
Bohn would score in the next at bat when Viosergy Rosa grounded out to second.
After Peralta walked Blake Barber, Cody Keefer hit a line drive to center. The center fielder Albert Almora dived to his left but the ball was inches away from his glove and got by him. Keefer ended up at third with a triple as both runners scored to give Jupiter a 6-5 lead.
Noah Perio would then add to the lead when he hit a blooper down the line in shallow left field that Hernandez couldn't corral as Keefer scored.
Ryan Goetz would follow by dropping a single front of the dive of the right fielder to score Perio.
A few inches here and there and the Cubs might have found themselves out of the inning but instead Jupiter had a comfortable 8-5 lead.
In the ninth, Blake Logan worked around a one-out single to earn his second save of the season.
Similar to the last homestand the Sharks collected double digit hits although this time it led to runs. Moran drove in two of them in the first and third with singles. He finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Matt Juengel did a terrific job setting the table for Jupiter in only his second career game batting leadoff. He went 3-for-5 and scored two runs in the win. Bohn also scored twice from the two hole.
Jupiter starter Trevor Williams had another solid performance as he allowed two runs on five hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked one in the no decision.
The Hammerheads and Cubs will continue their series on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
WP: Brian Ellington (1-1)
LP: Starling Peralta (5-3)
S: Blake Logan (2)
