Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads (13 - 18) blanked the Lakeland Flying Tigers (13-17), by a score of 4 - 0. Lakeland committed three errors in the loss, and were outhit 6 - 3. The Hammerheads redeemed themselves in tonight's win, after being swept in Fort Myers. Starting pitcher, Chris Sadberry, earned his third win of the season, evening his record at 3 - 3. Lakeland's Tommy Collier (3 - 2) suffered the loss.
The game moved at a rapid pace through the first four innings, with both teams combining for four base runners. Neither team could move a man beyond second base until the bottom of the fifth inning. With Collier pitching, Cameron Flynn began the momentum for the Hammerheads with a single to right field. Flynn quickly moved to third after stealing second and then advancing to third on a wild throw by Lakeland's catcher, Grayson Greiner. Blake Barber immediately hit the ball to a gap in center field, easily scoring Flynn. The second run of the inning came from Barber, with Brian Anderson's 14th RBI on the season.
The very next inning, the Hammerheads cushioned their lead after taking advantage of a walk and a single from the first two batters. Flynn came through with his second hit of the night with a bunt down the third base line. Flynn would have easily beaten out the throw, but Lakeland's third baseman, Tyler Hanover, had a wild throw that allowed both runners on first and second to score. The sixth inning would be the last time either team crossed home plate.
The pitching for Jupiter was just as dominant, allowing just three hits to the Tigers. Most outs came from groundouts, but the Hammerheads did collect three strikeouts during the outing. More impressively, Jupiter only issued one walk, and it occurred during the ninth inning with two outs.
The Hammerheads and Tigers will continue their four game series at Roger Dean Stadium with game two on Tuesday, May 12. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
