Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY-Right fielder Josh Hamilton's 2-for-4, two RBI night was the boost the Bats needed as they cruised to a 4-2 victory over the Indians Friday night. A crowd of 9, 854 saw Louisville secure their second straight win over Indianapolis.
The Bats got on the board early in the bottom of the first when left fielder Chris Dickerson scored off a Joey Votto fielder's choice. The Indians countered in the top of the second, scoring two runs.
The Bats took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, when Hamilton's go-ahead single to left field plated both catcher Ryan Jorgensen and shortstop Paul Janish.
Hamilton, who joined Louisville in May on his first rehab assignment from the parent club Cincinnati Reds, went 8-for-24, batting .333 with four home runs and six RBI. Since starting his second stint August 7th, Hamilton has continued his tear, hitting safely in each game he's played in.
Also adding to the Bats cause was Janish, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Bats starter RHP Tom Shearn almost matched his season high 7.1 innings pitched. Shearn ended his night pitching 7.0 innings, while surrendering two runs on four hits, while striking out six. With the win, Shearn now moves to 6-10 on the year. Louisville closer Ricky Stone secured his 12th save of the season.
Indians reliever Juan Perez (2-2) picked up the loss, giving up two runs on two hits. Indianapolis starter Victor Zambrano did not factor into the decision.
First basemen Steven Pearce led the Indians in hitting, going 2-for-4. Three other Indians had one hit apiece.
Tonight's game ends the four game series against the Indians. The Norfolk Tides come to town tomorrow for a two game set. Louisville's RHP Kirk Saarloos (0-2, 3.60) and Norfolk's RHP Andy Mitchell (7-6, 3.52) are the probable starters. First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m.
