Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will embark on a four-game road trip to the Mid-Western United States this week, facing off against three West Division squads. The 'Dogs will begin the quartet of games by taking on the Rockford IceHogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks) on Wednesday, January 27th at 8:05 pm EST at the Rockford MetroCenter in Rockford, Illinois. One night later on Thursday, January 28th, Hamilton will head to Wisconsin for an 8:00 pm EST matchup against the Milwaukee Admirals (American Hockey League affiliate of the Nashville Predators) at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The Bulldogs will get one day's rest before travelling back to Illinois for a game against Chris Chelios and the Chicago Wolves (American Hockey League affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers) on Saturday, January 30th at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont for an 8:00 pm EST start. Hamilton will wrap up the four-game swing on Sunday, January 31st by trekking back to Milwaukee for their second game against the Admirals in four nights. Puck-drop will take place at 8:00 pm EST at the Bradley Center.
Last week, the Bulldogs split a pair of games against two very familiar North Division rivals. On Friday, January 22nd, the 'Dogs visited the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester to take on the Americans (American Hockey League affiliate of the Florida Panthers) for the seventh time this season. The Bulldogs benefitted from an offensive explosion and avenged a 6-5 shootout loss to the Americans on January 15th, coming away with a 6-1 victory. One night later on Saturday, January 23rd, the 'Dogs were muzzled in a penalty-filled affair by the Toronto Marlies, falling 4-3 to their Southern Ontario counterparts at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.

- The Bulldogs would like to congratulate RW Mike Glumac and his wife Melissa on the birth of their son, Michael Elija Glumac, who was born on Saturday, January 23rd.
- Bulldogs D Yannick Weber has been named to Switzerland's Men's Ice Hockey Team for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
- G Cedrick Desjardins and D P.K. Subban took part in the 2010 AHL All-Star game, representing the Canadian All-Stars. The Canadian All-Stars claimed the 10-9 shootout victory, with Subban scoring the shootout game winner, and Desjardins making the game winning save in the shootout to seal the victory for their squad.
- The Bulldogs earned their 500th regular season victory with a 3-0 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday, November 28th.
- Hamilton's 61 points are currently three more than any other team in the Western Conference..
- Hamilton's 0.663 points percentage is currently second best in the AHL.
- Bulldogs forwards Ben Maxwell and Mathieu Darche were recalled last week by the Bulldogs' parent-club, the Montreal Canadiens. Darche has already skated in three games for the Habs, recording a goal and two assists during that span.
- The Bulldogs recently assigned forward Mikael Johnasson to Farjestads BK of the Swedish Elite League. Johansson had scored three goals and registered three assists for six points in 20 games with the 'Dogs this season.
- The Montreal Canadiens assigned forwards Max Pacioretty and Matt D'Agostini to the Bulldogs last week. Pacioretty scored six goals and 23 assists for 29 points in 37 games last season with the 'Dogs, while D'Agostini scored 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points in 20 games with Hamilton in 2008-2009.
- Bulldogs C Brock Trotter has scored nine goals and eights assists for 17 points and is +8 in his last 10 games, including a three-goal, one-assist, +3 performance in Hamilton's 5-2 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on January 9th. Trotter currently ranks 1st on the 'Dogs and 7th in the AHL in scoring with 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points this season.
- Hamilton C David Desharnais is currently riding a seven-game point streak during which the Quebec native has scored one goal and 10 assists for 11 points. Desharnais is currently 2nd on the 'Dogs and tied for 12th in the league in scoring with 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points in just 32 games played this season.
- Hamilton G Cedrick Desjardins was named the AHL's Goalie of the Month for his stellar play throughout December. Desjardins won all eight games he appeared in, posting three shutouts to go along with a 1.16 GAA and a 0.949 SV% for the month. He also managed to set a Bulldogs franchise record in December for individual shutout streak. Desjardins went 212 minutes and 37 seconds without letting a single puck get past him. The New Brunswick native now boasts the 2nd-best goals against average in the league at 1.84, the 6th-best save percentage at 0.928, and leads the league with five shutouts on the year. Desjardins is also tied for 5th in the league with 18 wins on the year.

There are more than 40 former Bulldogs on 2009-2010 National Hockey League rosters. Over 60 percent of all former 'Dogs have played in at least one NHL game. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments of ex-'Dogs from this past week:
* The Hamilton Bulldogs would like to congratulate the 10 alumni who have been named to Olympic rosters for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Forwards Mikhail Grabovski, Andrei Kostitsyn, and Sergei Kostitsyn will represent Belerus. D Jan Hejda and C Tomas Plekanec will suit up for the Czech Republic. Minnesota Wild F Antti Miettinen will wear the blue and white for Team Finland. G Jaroslav Halak and F Marcel Hossa will wear their national colours for Slovakia. Stalwart D Mike Komisarek and Vezina Trophy winner G Tim Thomas will take to the ice for the United States.
* Montreal G Jaroslav Halak added two more notches to his victory column last week, making 31 saves in a 3-1 win over New Jersey (Jan. 22), and getting the shutout in a 6-0 blowout over the New York Rangers (Jan. 23)
* New York Rangers RW Chris Higgins scored a goal and an assist while finishing +1 in an 8-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning (Jan. 19)
* Dallas LW Steve Ott had one assist in a 4-3 win over Minnesota (Jan. 18) and dished out another pair of helpers in a 4-3 win over the Edmonton (Jan. 22)
* Montreal C Tomas Plekanec picked up an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss to St. Louis (Jan. 20), and scored a goal and an assist in a 6-0 win over the New York Rangers (Jan. 23)
* Columbus RW Raffi Torres scored two goals in a 4-2 win over St. Louis (Jan. 18), and added one assist in a 3-2 win over the Bruins (Jan. 21)
* Montreal forward Benoit Pouliot continued to have the hot hand last week, scoring twice and finishing +2 in a loss to St. Louis (Jan. 20), and adding singles in wins over New Jersey (Jan. 22) and the New York Rangers (Jan. 23)
* Detroit RW Dan Cleary had three points last week, with a goal in a 3-2 loss to Washington (Jan. 19), an assist in a 4-3 shootout victory over Minnesota, and another helper in a 3-2 loss to Los Angeles (Jan. 23)
* St. Louis G Ty Conklin stopped 35 of Montreal's 38 shots to earn a 4-3 overtime victory over the Canadiens (Jan. 20)
* Minnesota RW Antti Miettinen scored two goals and registered one assist for three points while finishing +2 in a 4-3 loss to Dallas (Jan. 18), then put away another tally and finished +1 in a 4-2 win over Columbus (Jan. 23)
* Dallas D Trevor Daley tallied a goal as the Stars fell 4-3 to the Canucks (Jan. 21), and tickled the twine once again in a 4-3 win over Edmonton (Jan. 22)
* Columbus G Mathieu Garon made 30 saves to backstop the Blue Jackets to a 4-2 win over St. Louis (Jan. 18)
* Montreal D Marc-Andre Bergeron dished out one assist in a 4-3 overtime loss to St. Louis (Jan. 20), and added two more helpers while finishing +1 in a 6-0 win over the New York Rangers (Jan. 23)
