
Moose Swept By Bears In Week 17

The Manitoba Moose sacrificed 16 goals in Week 17 in back-to-back losses against the Hershey Bears (Jan. 22, 3-8L & Jan. 23, 2-8L). The Moose enter Week 18 on a four-game losing skid dating back to Jan. 15 against the Milwaukee Admirals (2-7L). Despite the pair of losses, the Moose maintain their third place standing in the North Division with 51 points.
Friday, January 22, 2009: Manitoba 3, Hershey 8
The Manitoba Moose surrendered a season-high eight goals to the Hershey Bears on Friday night in an 8-3 decision at the Giant Center. Manitoba's only offence was thanks to a single goal by Mathieu Schneider and a pair of markers courtesy of Marco Rosa. Cory Schneider dropped his 12th game this season in the loss.
Saturday, January 23, 2009: Manitoba 2, Hershey 8
The Manitoba Moose dropped an 8-2 decision to the Hershey Bears last night to finish the regular season 0-3-0-1 against the club from Pennsylvania. Guillaume Desbiens scored his ninth goal of the season in the loss while Evan Rankin scored his first AHL goal in his AHL debut. Daren Machesney stopped 33 of 41 shots in his 10th defeat this season.
Upcoming Opponents
The Manitoba Moose will face-off against the Worcester Sharks for the first time in franchise history on Wednesday night. The Sharks are midway through their third AHL season and currently sit third in the Atlantic Division with 57 points. They are 3-2-0-0 in their last five games and hold a 16-8-1-0 at DCU Center this campaign. The Moose also sit in third place, but in the North Division, holding 51 points on the season. They enter tonight on a four-game losing skid and are 1-4-0-0 in their last five contests.

UNFORTUNATE FOURSOME:
The Manitoba Moose enter Week 18 on a four-game losing streak. The last time the antler-squad picked up two points was in a 3-0 shutout win over the Abbotsford Heat on Jan. 13/10. Not only have the Moose failed to gain a single point in their last quartette of games, but they have also been outscored 29-9 (2-7L vs. Milwaukee; 2-6L vs. Milwaukee; 3-8L at Hershey; 2-8L at Hershey). This is the most goals the Moose have allowed in four consecutive games in club history. In fact, the Moose hold the lowest goals for in the North Division with 113.
RANKIN ROCK SOLID IN DEBUT:
Evan Rankin played in his first AHL game on Jan. 23 against the Bears and scored his first professional goal in his debut. The Portage, MI native connected in the second period with help from Tommy Maxwell and Mathieu Schneider. He fired three shots on net throughout the night and finished plus-1, leading the team that evening in plus/minus along with Maxwell and Dusty Collins.
THIRTY GOAL CLUB:
In Saturday's game against Hershey, Guillaume Desbiens scored his 30th goal as a Moose when he opened the scoring against the Bears. In 34 games with the club this season, the right-winger has collected 16 points (9g & 7a) to sit fifth on the team leaderboard. The Alma, PQ native joins elite company as only the third member on the current squad to have 30 Moose goals -- Michael Grabner leads with 60 while Captain Mike Keane holds 35.
