Abbotsford Heat News Release
1) The Abbotsford HEAT wrapped up their longest home stand of the season with a pair of losses to the Houston Aeros. On Friday night, the HEAT suffered their worst home ice loss of the season, as they gave up five power play goals in a 7-1 loss. The following evening, Duncan Milroy scored in the final two minutes and Brandon Rogers scored a bank shot winner in overtime as the Aeros overcame two HEAT leads to beat Abbotsford 5-4 in overtime. The HEAT finish their home stand with a 3-3-2 record, (2 wins over Texas, an overtime loss and loss to Manitoba, a loss and win versus Lake Erie, and a loss and overtime loss to Houston). Abbotsford is now 10-9-4-1 on the season at home and 11-10-0-2 on the road.
2) The Heat will now play 12 of their next 16 games away from the AESC. Abbotsford embarks on a three game road trip this Thursday, once again playing three games in Texas. Their first two games will be versus the Texas Stars this Friday and Saturday. The HEAT swept the Stars in games back in Abbotsford earlier this month, 3-1 on January 8th and 4-2 on January 9th. The Heat will wrap up their road trip in Houston with a game on Monday, February 1st. Abbotsford defeated the Aeros, 4-3 in overtime, back in Houston on January 3rd.
3) Upcoming HEAT HOME GAMES - February 4th and 5th will see the Atlanta Thrashers affiliate, the Chicago Wolves; make their only appearance of the season in Abbotsford. Future NHL Hall of Famer Chris Chelios is a key member of this team that is currently in the thick of a playoff race of their own in the West Division. Other notable Wolves players include: former Canucks players Jason Krog and Steve McCarthy and former Captain of the Vancouver Giants, Spencer Machacek. Krog (Fernie BC) and McCarthy (Trail BC) join forward Andrew Kozek (Sicamous BC) as the local BC flavour from the Windy City.
4) Leaders: Goals-Jaffray (16), Assists-Jaffray (21), Points-Jaffray (37), plus/minus-Jaffray (+16), power play goals-Jaffray/Backlund (5), shorthanded goals-Jaffray (4). Wins-Irving (11), goals against average-Irving (2.68), save percentage-Keetley (.911).
5) Milestones:
a. Cam Cunning is one goal away from 40 in the AHL.
b. Kris Chucko is 30 games away from 300 AHL games played.
c. Garth Murray is 13 games away from 150 AHL games played.
d. Jason Jaffray is five games away from 300 AHL games played.
e. Riley Armstrong played his 300th AHL game on Jan 22 vs. Houston. You can catch all the action of Abbotsford HEAT hockey on Country 107.1 FM. The HEAT will play their next three games away from the AESC, beginning with a pair of games in Texas versus the STARS, the affiliate for the Dallas Stars.
