November 9, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB -- Tigers forward James Hamblin and his team, Team Canada White, featured five other WHL players, captured the gold medal at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge on Saturday beating Russia 6-2 in Dawson Creek, BC.
Hamblin was named Captain of the squad for the tournament, a great honor to have and shows his leadership characters at just 16 years old. The WHL rookie was in the top 5 in scoring all tournament long, finishing with 6 points in 6 games played including 5 goals.
Hamblin has been out of the Tigers lineup due to the tournament but will re-join the Tabbies in time for the games this weekend against Tri-City and Kootenay.
Team Canada White won the first gold medal since Ontario in 2011, prior to the start of the three-team national team format. Before 2014, Canada was represented by five regional teams: Atlantic, Ontario, Pacific, Quebec, and West.
Congratulations to James and Team Canada!
