Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Sky Sox dropped the first leg of their homestand on Monday night at Security Service Field, falling to the Rainiers, 11-6.

It was a rough night for the Springs' bullpen, the relief allowing eight runs in just four innings. Though starter Josh Muecke kept the team in the game through the first five, leaving the match tied 3-3, the Rainiers' offensive surge was too much for the Springs to handle.

The two clubs trading scores through the fifth frame, the sixth inning marked the beginning of the Sky Sox' implosion. Damian Moss relieving Muecke in the sixth, the lefty yielded three earned runs before he was lifted in favor of Edgmer Escalona, who finished out the frame, 6-3 Tacoma.

The Sky Sox tying the score at six in the bottom half on the strength of Mike Paulk's two-RBI double and Dexter Fowler's RBI single, their momentum was squandered with another disastrous frame in the seventh. Escalona allowing three earned runs of his own, reliever Nick Bierbrodt fared no better, allowing another run before the innings conclusion, 10-6.

The Rainiers tacking on another score in the top of the ninth, the Sky Sox were unable to mount a rally in the ninth, falling 11-6.

With the defeat, the Sky Sox slip to 30-33 while the Rainiers improve to 31-30. Steve Pallazolo (1-1, 3.18) was credited with his first win of the season while Edgmer Escalona (1-2, 8.91) took the loss.

The two clubs will face off once again tomorrow night with Esmil Rogers (0-1, 7.36) taking the hill against Chris Seddon (6-3, 4.14). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

Notables:

- With a single in the bottom of the first, Matt Miller extended his hit streak to 16 games, the longest active run in the PCL. Miller also had a 21-game hit streak earlier in the season; both were the longest active streaks in the league at the time.

- The Sky Sox and Rainiers combined for a total of 30 hits tonight, the fourth time the Sox and their respective opponent have totaled 30 or more hits in their last 40 games.

- With four home runs on the night, the Rainiers tied a season high for home runs in a single game against the Sky Sox. Top prospect and outfielder Greg Halman contributed two of the deep balls.
