Round Rock Express News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - Having already scored two runs in the ninth, Drew Locke grounded out with two runners on as the Round Rock Express fell to the Iowa Cubs 5-4 Monday night at Principle Park. The Express (29-35) have lost four consecutive games, after having a season-high four game win streak snapped on Friday, while the Cubs (33-30) take a 5-3 lead in this year's series.
Iowa scored one run in the first inning and three in the third to take a lead they never relinquished. Iowa's Sam Fuld spearheaded the win getting on base five times, going 3-for-3 with two walks and two runs.
Cubs' starter Thomas Diamond (5-2) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings of work. He had two walks and three strikeouts. Relievers Justin Berg and James Russell combined to work three scoreless innings before closer Brian Schlitter (9) came in to pick up the save.
Loux (2-2) was given the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings pitched. He finished with two walks and four strikeouts. Brad Thompson gave up one runs working the sixth and seventh. Roy Corcoran gave up two hits with a walk in the eighth.
The Express scored two in the fifth after Loux walking and Brian Bogusevic following with a single. Oswaldo Navarro drove in both after doubling and narrowing the lead at 4-2.
Two straight hits from Brian Esposito and Marcos Cabral and a Bogusevic double scoring Esposito cut the lead to 5-3 in the ninth. Navarro scored Cabral on a sacrifice fly, but Schlitter induced two straight outs to finish the game.
Bogusevic (2-for-5) and Navarro (2-for-3) had multiple hits for the Express. Bogusevic is now tied with Jason Bourgeois for second on the team with 22 multiple-hit games.
Round Rock and Iowa take part in a double-header of two seven inning games tomorrow at Principal Park beginning at 5:00 p.m. CDT. One of the games is a make-up of a game between the Cubs and Express that was rained out on April 24, and again rained out on April 26. Dueling righties will throw in Game One as Josh Banks (7-4, 3.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Express, opposed by Casey Coleman (5-5, 4.29) for the Cubs. Erick Abreu (0-0, 0.00) will get his first start for the Express in Game Two, after four relief appearances this season for Round Rock, while the Cubs have yet to determine a starter.
