GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms are proud to announce the nominees for the 2012 class for the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame presented by Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Company. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for the third class of the AHHOF will take place on April 6, in Heritage Hall at the Glens Falls Civic Center, prior to that night's game against the Albany Devils.
Once again, the fans get to take part in the selection process! Fans can submit their votes for up to two of the nominees by sending an email to sdewitt@phantomshockey.com before February 26. One email per fan please. Please include "Hall of Fame" in the subject line.
The fans' collective decision for their top two candidates will count as one of the votes. And the rest of the voting will come from the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame Committee which is comprised of area hockey historians, former professional players and hockey executives, media members and youth hockey organizers.
It is an impressive group of nominees with a wide range of outstanding credentials representing area hockey at a variety of levels.

The nominees for the 2012 class of the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame presented by Glens Falls National Bank are:
Dave Casey
* Glens Falls native, lived in Glens Falls for more than 26 years
* Long time head trainer for Adirondack Red Wings
* Served the team in 1253 games including 135 playoff games
* Only person in Adirondack hockey history to earn 4 Calder Cup rings
* Served the Adirondack Red Wings for the first fourteen years of the franchise, missing just 2 of over 1200 games in that era
* Has coached 3 sports at high school level: football, basketball, baseball
Murray Eaves
* Played 57 games in the NHL with Winnipeg Jets & Detroit Red Wings
* Played on Canadian National Team in 1992 & 1994
* Played with Adirondack Red Wings 1987-90
* Assitant Coach of Adirondack Red Wings for 3 seasons from 1995-98
* Won the AHL's Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award, awarded to the player best exemplifying sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to hocky, 2 seasons in a row (1988-89 & 1989-90)
Dale Krentz
* Left wing born in Canada
* Played 3 years at Michigan State
* Player with Adirondack Red Wings for 5 seasons (1985-90)
* He had 46 points during 1985-86 season with Adirondack Red Wings
* In 1987-88 he scored 82 points and was named to AHL second all-star team
* Played 30 games in NHL with Detroit Red Wings
Peter Mahovlich
* Retired Canadian hockey player and head coach
* Played 2 season with Adirondack Red Wings (1980-1982) at the end of his NHL career
* 16-year NHL career, totaled 288 goals and 485 assists for 773 points in 884 games
* Won four Stanley Cups with Montreal Canadiens from 1971-77.
* Head coach in IHL, CHL, AHL
* Currently a pro scout for Florida Panthers and resides in Glen Lake
Norm Maracle
* Canadian goaltender for Adirondack Red Wings 1994-1997 and 1997-1999
* Led AHL with 34 wins in 1996-1997
* AHL Second All-Star team with Adirondack Red Wings, 1997 & 1998
* Led AHL in games (66) and minutes (3709) with Adirondack Red Wings, 1997-98
* Goaltender in NHL for Detroit Red Wings and Atlanta Thrashers
* Still active in pro hockey and currently plays with German team
Ted Nolan
* Glens Falls Native
* Adirondack Red Wings for 5seasons (1979/80,1980/81,1981/82,1982/83,1983/84)
* Played 78 NHL games in the 1980s
* OHL coach of the year in 1991
* Assistant coach in the NHL for the Hartford Whalers 1994/95.
* Head coach of Buffalo Sabres for 2 seasons, 1995-1997
* Currently head coach of Latvia men's national ice hockey team
Dave Strader
* Glens Falls Native
* Professional broadcast career began as radio announcer and public relations director for the Adirondack Red Wings from 1979-1985 including team's first Calder Cup in 1981
* Play-by-play announcer for NHL on NBC and NBC-Sports Network
* Has previously worked as broadcaster for Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Phoenix Coyotes and ESPN coverage of NHL hockey and NCAA college basketball
* Broadcasts the Stanley Cup Finals on NHL's International feed
* Hockey Play-by-play announcer for NBC's coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy
* A two-time New York State Broadcasters Association honoree
* AHL's top public relations professional in 1984
Erin Whitten
* Glens Falls Native
* Member of the U.S. Women's National Ice Hockey Team from 1992-2001 including several medals in world championships.
* USA Hockey Women's Player of the Year 1994
* Starting goalie for the 1992 and 1994 World Championships
* 3-time All-American goaltender
* 4-time ECAC Goalie of the year
* First woman to participate in AHL, ECHL, CHL, COHL game
* First woman to win a professional hockey game 1993
* Associate Head Coach at University of New Hampshire
The Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame, presented by Glens Falls National Bank, began in 2010 to establish a lasting tribute to those who have developed and promoted the popularity of hockey in the Adirondack region. The Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame ("AHHOF") honors and preserves the history of the game, and in particular, those who have made outstanding contributions and achievements in the Adirondack region.
Current members of the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame include: Huge Belanger, Bill Dineen, Jody Gage, Ned Harkness, Greg Joly, Glenn Merkosky and Barry Melrose.
