Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks couldn't overtake the Chicago Steel in the third period Saturday, falling in the season opener 6-4.
Two Steel goals in the first period were sandwiched between a Craig Smith score six minutes into the game and Brett Beebe's tying-goal at 11:35.
Chicago pulled ahead for good with another pair of scores in the second. During a five-on-three powerplay with under two minutes to play in the period, Nick Larson cut the deficit, scoring from a sharp angle.
After Max Nicastro put in what proved to be the game-winner at 14:52 of the third period, John Lee answered on the powerplay with 2:38 remaining. The Steel tallied an empty-net, powerplay goal in the final minute to cap their victory.
The Black Hawks travel to Kearney, Nebraska to meet the Tri-City Storm for their next game on Friday. Young Arena will be the site of a game next weekend on Sunday when the Hawks host the Green Bay Gamblers at 5:05. After the action, skate with the Hawks and meet your favorite players.
