Lancaster Stormers News Release

Barnstormers left-hander John Halama, who won 56 Major League games and threw a perfect game in Triple-A before becoming one of the Atlantic League's premier pitchers, has accepted a position as the new pitching coach with the York Revolution, it was announced today by the Revolution.

Halama, 40, joins the staff of new York manager Mark Mason, who was promoted from the pitching coach position following Andy Etchebarren's retirement at the end of the 2012 season.

The move brings a 19-year career as an active player to a close.

He had filled the pitching coach role with the Barnstormers for several days in 2012 while Marty Janzen was away from the ballclub for the birth of his son, Colton.

The southpaw won 10 or more games three consecutive seasons for the Seattle Mariners (2000-02). He was a member of the starting rotation for the 2001 Mariners, which set a big league record with 116 wins. He last pitched in the Major Leagues for the Baltimore Orioles in 2006, going 3-1 for the Birds, his seventh big league club.

In 2007, Halama first came to the Atlantic League. He went 8-10 for the Long Island Ducks and pitched in the All-Star Game at Clipper Magazine Stadium in July of that year.

For the next three seasons, the Brooklyn native put together a 14-5 record with an amazing 1.93 ERA for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. He was signed by the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians and Oakland Athletics over the course of that span.

He joined the Barnstormers in June, 2011 after pitching in Taiwan. For the next season and a half, he put together a 19-15 regular season record for Lancaster and finished fourth in the Atlantic League in ERA in 2012. Halama was 1-0 with a 2.21 ERA in four post-season appearances over those two seasons.

"This is where John wants to go with his life," said Barnstormers manager Butch Hobson. "He is a very smart man and really knows his stuff. I know he will be a quality pitching coach, and I can see him one day coaching in the big leagues."

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their ninth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
