Norfolk Tides News Release

The Gwinnett Braves held off a late Tides rally to knock off Norfolk 4-3 in front of 10,841 fans Friday night at Harbor Park.

Norfolk trailed the contest 4-2 in the eighth inning before Ambiorix Concepcion pulled the Tides within a run with an RBI single. The Tides then put two runners on base against Braves closer Manny Acosta in the ninth inning but Acosta struck out Justin Turner and Rhyne Hughes looking to end the threat and salvage a win in the series finale for Gwinnett.

Tides starter Jake Arrieta (5-8) took the loss as he failed to get out of the fifth inning for the second straight outing. The 23-year-old right-hander issued six walks and hit two batters while striking out two, allowing three runs - one earned - on four hits in 4.1 innings. Arrieta threw just 52 of his 99 pitches for strikes.

Jonathan Tucker led Norfolk's offense with three hits, while Brandon Snyder two doubles and an RBI. Tucker has now hit safely in five straight games and is batting .438 in five games since being promoted from Double-A Bowie.

The Tides will tavel to Durham on Saturday to start their final three-game road series of the season. Chris Waters (9-6, 4.53) will look to pick up his 10th win of the season for the Tides against Bulls right-hander Rayner Oliveros (0-0, 7.71).
