September 4, 2009 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Seven Indianapolis Indians' corporate partners have helped to raise over $25,000 for many charitable organizations through different community programs. These organizations will be recognized for their services during Community Awards Night on Friday, September 4 at Victory Field.
Through varied in-game promotions and community programs the Indians and their corporate partners have helped to raise money for charitable organizations such as: Ronald McDonald House Charities, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Community Health Network Foundation, Young Survival Coalition, National Alliance for Autism Research, Methodist Health Foundation, and the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis.
The people who made this all possible will be honored for their outstanding contributions to those charitable organizations in a post-game awards ceremony prior to the fireworks following Friday's game. The organizations and people who will be presented awards will be McDonald's of Central Indiana, Eli Lilly and Company, Community Health Network, Great Clips, Clarian Health, the International League, and George Foster.
The Indians teamed up with McDonald's of Central Indiana on the "McDonald's Hits for the House" program. Every time a Tribe batter collected a hit at Victory Field the Indians and McDonald's of Central Indiana would each donate $10 to Ronald McDonald House charities. Through their combined effort they helped to raise $10,000 for Ronald McDonald House charities.
Through the "Wishes for Make a Wish Foundation" program the Indians along with Eli Lilly and Company encouraged fans to make charitable contributions when requesting birthday and anniversary wishes to run on the scoreboard during Indians games at Victory Field. For each dollar donated by an Indians' fan this season, Lilly matched with a donation of their own. 100% of the donations collected as a part of this program were donated to the Make a Wish Foundation, as Eli Lilly and Company raised a total of $6,000 to grant a wish for "Make A Wish Kid", Henry Mullet.
During four games this season Great Clips came to Victory Field to give haircuts to fans for charity. For a $10 donation, fans could receive a haircut with all proceeds going to the National Alliance For Autism Research. Through their charity haircuts and with help from the fans, Great Clips was able to raise a total of $476.
Throughout the season the Indians "Walked for Health". Each time an Indians' batter walked, a contribution was made by the Indians to the Community Health Network Foundation. Through August the Tribe totaled 188 walks at Victory Field to help Community Health Network raise $3,500 towards their foundation.
Community Health Network also teamed up with the Indians for Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Friday, August 7 where the Tribe wore Pink Jerseys that were auctioned off to fans. All proceeds for the Pink Jerseys went to the Young Survival Coalition. $3,000 was raised through the efforts of Community Health Network and Indians' fans bidding on the Pink Jerseys.
With the in-game Clarian's Home Runs for Health program, the Indians along with Clarian Health donated one hundred dollars to the Methodist Health Foundation every time an Indians' player hit a home run on a certain date at Victory Field. Through "Home Runs for Health" Clarian Health and the Indians were able to raise $600 for the Methodist Health Foundation.
The Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis received donations from former Indians outfielder and 1977 National League MVP George Foster. Foster appeared at Victory Field on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22 to greet fans as well as sign autographs. Proceeds from Foster's autograph and memorabilia sales were donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis as the former Indians and Cincinnati Reds' great helped to raise $1,000.
The Indians also received $750 worth of charitable contributions from the International League. The International League used player's fines throughout the season as a way to give back to the community as they donated the fine money to the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis.
The Indians would like to say "thank you" to the different corporate partners and charitable organizations that will be represented following Friday Night's game. The Tribe looks forward to continuing these programs in an effort to give back to the community this season and in the future.
