
Guzman's Tenth Inning Single Gives Revs Win In Series Finale

Carlos Guzman's two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth inning gave the York Revolution a 6-5 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday night in front of 5,928 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. With the win, the Revs have now taken back first place by a half a game over Lancaster in the Freedom Division. The "War of the Roses" series inches closer as it is now 8-7 in favor of the Barnstormers. York opens up a three game series Saturday night at 6:30 against the Somerset Patriots at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
The Revolution struck first and early to take a 1-0 lead, giving them their first lead of the entire series. After CF Chris Walker nailed a double to deep center, he was brought home on a chopper hit up the middle by Guzman.
Lancaster tied the game up, 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning as 3B Aaron Herr hit a deep sacrifice fly to center bringing in LF Adam Calderone, who singled earlier in the inning.
York answered right back in the bottom half of the inning to re-take the lead. 2B Ramon Castro and DH Jose Herrera blasted back-to-back home runs making it a 3-1 game in favor of the Revs.
The Barnstormers got one back in the top of the sixth inning to cut York's lead down to 3-2. With 2B Gilberto Mejia leading off with a triple down the right field foul line, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Calderone.
Lancaster took the lead for the first time all game in the top of the eighth going up 5-3 on the Revs. With CF Wayne Lydon slapping a single and stealing second base, he scored on a single up the middle from Calderone with two outs. The next batter, 1B Tommy Everidge, followed that up by crushing a two run homer to left giving the Barnstormers the lead.
The Revs came right back and scored two runs to tie it up, 5-5 in the bottom half. With the bases loaded, 3B Vince Harrison hit a bloop single to right to plate Herrera and LF James Shanks.
In the bottom of the tenth with the bases loaded, Guzman smacked a walk-off single to left-center giving York a 6-5 comeback victory in the series finale.
Revolution reliever Geoff Geary earned the win (3-1) pitching a scoreless 10th inning.
Starter Shaun Garceau enjoyed a third consecutive strong start since moving back into the rotation, lasting into the seventh inning while only giving up two runs off of four hits and striking out five.
Barnstormer reliever Tim McNabb took the loss (2-2) pitching the final two innings for Lancaster.
The homestand continues as York will open up a three game series against the Somerset Patriots on Saturday night at 6:30 with starter Corey Thurman (9-3, 3.57) taking the mound for the Revs on Emergency Responders Night presented by Compleat Restorations at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The game will also feature an encore performance by the Washington Nationals Racing Presidents and there will be Fireworks after the game presented by SeniorLIFE.
