NAHL Austin Bruins

Gutsy Bruins Win 2-1 over Fairbanks

October 25, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Austin Bruins News Release

Three home games, three wins for the Austin Bruins (10-2-0). A late goal in the second period tied the game and an early tally in the third period pushed the Bruins past the Fairbanks Ice Dogs (9-5-0) 2-1 Friday night at Riverside Arena in Austin.

The first period was somewhat of a feeling-out process for the first several minutes. Fairbanks had a few more scoring chances in the scoreless frame, outshooting Austin 11-5.

In the opening minute of the second period, the Ice Dogs scored first, when Jacob Hetz (Pittsburgh, PA) capitalized on a Bruins turnover, beating Bruins goalie Nick Lehr (Roseville, MN) on a one-timer from Colton Wolter (Fairbanks, AK). Austin was heavily outshot again in the second (17-5), but was able to tie the game with 31 seconds left when Jake Arroyo (Bolingbrook, IL) scored his first career goal on a blast from the point, set up by Jay Dickman (Shoreview, MN).

With the game tied, the Bruins struck early in the third when rookie Brian Bachnak (Brownstown, MI) beat Fairbanks goalie Kevin Aldridge (Beverly Hills, MI) five-hole on a shot from the left circle for his third of the season. Lehr was superb again for Austin, making 31 saves in his ninth win of the year, preserved by a late penalty-kill in which the Ice Dogs never set up.

Tomorrow night the Bruins travel a short distance to take on the Coulee Region Chill at 7pm. The game can be seen on fasthockey.com.
