ELMIRA, NY - The Adirondack Frostbite withstood an Elmira Jackals' rally in the third period, and prevailed in a shootout 5-4 on Saturday night at First Arena.

The Frostbite got on the scoreboard first, 8:36 into the first period. Blue Bennefield carried the puck all the way into the Jackals' zone, and from the end boards, centered back in front for Ryan Prentice, who jammed a shot through the five-hole of Tyson Gajda for his third goal of the season.

Elmira tied the game at 15:30, just two seconds after a Jackals' power-play opportunity expired. Jason Sessa gathered in a loose puck in the near corner and skated in front. His shot deflected off of the right pad of Derek Gustafson and trickled past the Frostbite goaltender.

Then, at 19:10, Hugo Belanger stole an Elmira clearing attempt in the slot, and skated in alone on Gajda, wristing a shot over his blocker pad for his 26th of the year.

Adirondack took a 4-2 lead just 54 seconds into the third period. Kevin Watters took a shot from the far corner that deflected off of Gajda's skate and tricked across the line.

Elmira pulled within one at 8:22 as Kevin Cooper tipped home a Trevor Burgess shot at the top of the crease, and then tied the game at 12:21 on a power-play goal off of the stick of Konstantin Kalmikov.
