San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO – The season has officially begun and your Gulls are once again doing their part in the San Diego community. After a record-high last season with community appearances and charitable contributions, the Blue and Orange are looking to raise the bar in 2004-05. And here's what's happening with your favorite hockey team away from the rink...

Here's an updated list of some of the events the players and staff have attended:

Sept. 11: Assistant coach Jamie Black and defenseman Mike Garrow were on-hand for "Celebrate Chula Vista." This family festival featured great food, live music, local business vendors, children's rides plus an evening concert and a fireworks display in Marina View Park.

Sept. 17: Head coach Martin St. Amour and Sylvain Deschatelets participated in the 21st Annual "Celebrity Waiters Luncheon" at the Coronado Island Marriott. At last year's event, more than $68,000 was raised for United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County. As celebrity waiters, the Gulls were joined by counterparts in the motion picture, television and radio industries and the sports world, as they entertained, cajoled, extorted, and yes... even served some food.

Oct. 1: St. Amour and Trevor Koenig appeared at TDS Middle School, located in Lakeside. TDS Middle School is doing a HUGE fundraiser with the Gulls and the organization wanted to show its appreciation and help kick-off the fundraiser. St. Amour and Koenig gave a speech during an assembly and were on-hand for autographs/pictures. For more information on starting a fundraiser with the Gulls, contact 619-224-GOAL ext. 7.

Oct. 4: Garrow, Deschatelets and rookie Guillaume Fournier appeared at Trophy's Restaurant in Fashion Valley's Hazard Center. They were on-hand to watch some Monday Night Football and promote the Gulls' home opener on Oct. 23.

Oct. 11: The Gulls held a preseason rally for all season ticket holders at Miramar Speed Circuit. Season ticket holders had their chance to meet and greet the new Gulls players and get pumped for the season opener.

Oct: 16: Darren Partch and Mathieu Chouinard appeared at the Deputy Association of San Diego County's 50th Anniversary Dinner at the Town and Country Hotel (located in Hotel Circle). The event celebrated "Champions and Heroes," dedicated to local sports teams and athletes. Partch and Chouinard were on-hand for autographs and pictures and also gave out a bunch of "goodies."

Oct. 18: Sandy Gull appeared at Trophy's Restaurant in Fashion Valley's Hazard Center. He was on-hand to watch some Monday Night Football and promote the Gulls' home opener on Oct. 23.

Oct. 20: The Gulls held a special party for FULL SEASON TICKET HOLDERS ONLY. This special engagement allowed full season ticket holders to watch a Gulls practice and get formally introduced to the team.

Oct. 25: Defenseman Jonathon Shockey and forward Darren Clark appeared at Longfellow Elementary School in Clairemont, promoting the school's fundraising event with the Gulls.

Oct. 26: Forwards Sean O'Connor and Colin Shields appeared in front of the NBC 7/39 building, promoting Kids News Day.

Here's a list of events that the Gulls will be participating in over the next couple of months. (There will be additions so make sure you check out the Gulls' web site (www.sandiegogulls.com) for updates.)

Oct. 29: Deschatelets and other Gulls staff members will be appearing at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center for their Halloween bash. During the event, they will judge a "Chili Cook-off," and a Halloween costume contest. They will also conduct a hockey 101 exhibit.

Nov.11: Garrow and Deschatelets will be appearing at the San Diego Amateur Hockey Club's practice at the San Diego Ice Arena (Mira Mesa). Both Garrow and Deschatelets will help the team with hockey and skating drills.

Dec. 7: Several Gulls players and staff members will be appearing at the 10th annual Shop With a Jock event, which will take place at Mervyns directly across from the Sports Arena. Shop With A Jock is a yearly function, organized by the Junior Seau Foundation. Those participating will help underprivileged children shop for their holiday wish-list. The children will not be given money. Their purchases will be subtotaled at the register and the Foundation will pay for the purchases at the end of the event.
