Greenville, SC â The Greenville Groove fell to the Columbus Riverdragons, 78-86, in their season opener at the BI-LO Center. National Basketball Development League (NBDL) Champions look to defend their title against the Lowgators on Sunday, November 17th.
An all-star cast was on hand for the game on Friday night. The crowded was entertained by Fred Berry (Rerun) of the television show What's Happening. Rushia Brown was also on hand for the game. She is a Furman graduate and a veteran of the WNBA's Cleveland Rockers. The Eastside High School Band played the National Anthem and provided in-game music.
Donald Hand went 5 of 9 on field goals and 2 for 4 of three point attempts to lead the Groove. Greg Jones and Kevin Lyde also had double scoring nights, have 14 and 10 points respectively. Brandon Kurtz led the team in rebounding with 10, and added 8 points.
The Groove shot 40-percent (27-68) from the field and the Riverdragon's shot 39-percent (25-64). Each team shot well at the line, both averaging over 70-percent for the night.
