Flight Comes From Behind To Beat Roanoke 66-63

ROANOKE, Va., Nov. 15 – Lonnie Harrell scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to help the Flight erase a 17-point third quarter deficit and lift Huntsville to a 66-63 season-opening victory over the Roanoke Dazzle in National Basketball Development League play Friday night.

Harrell finished the night with a double-double, collecting 10 rebounds, two assists, a steal and a pair of blocks. His total included a pair of crucial rebounds and a deflection late in the game. Joining Harrell in double figures for the Flight was Bakari Hendrix with 14 points and Michael Wilks with 12. Cory Alexander paced the Dazzle with 16 points while Terrence Shannon added 12.

After falling behind 19-13 after one quarter and 36-25 at the half, the Flight found themselves down 48-31 after Alexander put in a three-footer with 5:23 to play in the third. Huntsville then exploded for a 27-4 run over the next seven-plus minutes.

Harrell finished the spurt by scoring the final 10 points of the stretch, capping the run with a pair of long-range 3-pointers which gave the visitors a 58-52 lead with 8:10 to play. His first 3-pointer at the 8:20 mark gave Huntsville its first lead of the contest.

The Dazzle rallied to tie the score at 62 with 3:25 remaining on a Cypheus Bunton 3-pointer, but Harrell came up again with a pair of free throws to give the Flight the a two-point advantage with 3:08 remaining.

After Geoff Owens hit one-of-two free throws with 48 seconds to play, Wilks and Hendrix each added a one-of-two from the line in the final 6.3 seconds to seal the victory.

The Flight’s defense held the Dazzle to just 21.4 percent shooting in the final quarter as they connected on just 3-of-14 shots. Huntsville outscored Roanoke 18-11 in the final quarter.

The Flight continues their two-game road swing Saturday when they take on Asheville.. Game time is set for 7:15 pm EST at the Asheville Civic Center.
