Flight and Purity Dairies to announce Teacher of the Year

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 31 â The winner of the "Purity Dairies Huntsville Flight Teacher of the Year" award will be announced during halftime of the NBDL game between the Flight and the Columbus Riverdragons on Friday, April 1.
During the season, children from area schools were invited to send in written essays nominating a teacher for the award. The Flight received more than 250 nominations for 42 different teachers, representing 12 schools.
"Throughout our four years in the Tennessee Valley, the Flight and the NBDL have made it a priority to be involved with our schools to help kids understand the importance of education," Flight team president Tom Wagganer said. "While our âSchool Days' and âRead to Achieve' programs are focused more on the students, we felt like we needed to do something to recognize our teachers for all of the hard work they do."
One teacher from each of the 12 schools has been selected as a finalist. Each of the finalists receives an ice cream party for his or her class, courtesy of Purity Dairies, as well as a pair of tickets to the Flight game for the teacher and the student who wrote the essay.
The "Teacher of the Year" winner will receive an ice cream party at his or her classroom with the Flight players and team mascot, Cosmo. The winning teacher will also receive tickets to the game, a "Teacher of the Year" plaque, and roundtrip airfare for two to anywhere in the USA.
Each student who submitted a nomination received a ticket to the game.
The panel of judges for the award was comprised of Purity Dairies and Huntsville Flight staff members, as well as Flight players and coaches.
