BREATHING ROOM: Columbus jumped on center Mike Benton's back and rode him to win at Roanoke Wednesday, lengthening the Dragons lead over the second-place Dazzle to 2½ games. Benton scored 15 points, collected 10 rebounds and blocked four shots.
NOW BOARDING ALL ROWS: The Huntsville Flight has won six of its last seven games.
STILL SLIDING: With three first-team All-NBDL players not in uniform, Roanoke lost for the ninth time in 11 games Wednesday. Cory Alexander and Matt Carroll are now Bobcats and forward Isiah Victor did not play for the fourth straight game due to a hand injury.
J.T. AND ZIM: NBDL head coaches named Roanoke forward James Thomas as Rookie of the Year on Wednesday and Columbus point guard Derrick Zimmerman as the league's Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday.
