Grizzlies Take Opener From Cruisers

SAUGET, Ill.- The Gateway Grizzlies snapped a three-game losing streak, defeating the Oakland County Cruisers 11-3 Friday night in the opener of a three-game series. The win came in front of 4,701 at GCS Ballpark.

Oakland County (47-35) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a walk and a hit. The lead was short-lived.

The Grizzlies (44-36) answered with a four-run first inning of their own. In a sign of things to come it was the middle of the Gateway lineup that did the producing in the first. Logan Parker and Charlie Lisk each had run-scoring doubles in the inning. Lisk drove in a pair. Jason Patton added an RBI.

Patton paced the offense, which racked up 13 hits. Patton was 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Parker and Lisk each finished 3 for 5. Parker added his ninth home run of the year in the fifth and drove in three runs. Tyler Heil and Gordie Gronkowski each drove in runs for the Grizzlies in the win.

Mark Brackman tossed 7.2 innings for the win, his 10th of the year, to tie for the league-lead. He allowed three runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out five. He is now 8-0 in his last 10 starts. Adrian Garza made his Grizzlies debut, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Garza struck out two.

The Grizzlies and the Cruisers will play the second game of the three-game series Saturday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
