Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - Jon Myers smacked a two-run home run to left field in the seventh inning and the Gateway Grizzlies picked up a 3-1 come-from-behind victory to sweep the Washington Wild Things at GCS Ballpark Thursday.

The series sweep was the sixth of the season for the Grizzlies, who moved into first place in the Frontier League West Division with the victory.

Washington (33-47) scored the game's first run in the second inning on a run-scoring single by Jovan Rosa, but that is all they would muster. The Wild Things finished the three-game series with only two runs scored.

Gateway (48-33) starter Paul Tremlin fired six strong innings to keep the Grizzlies within a run. The right-hander from Quartz Hill, CA did not factor into the decision, allowing five hits and striking out two.

The score stayed 1-0 in favor of Washington until Myers hit his 18th home run of the season in the seventh.

Jonathan Johnson added an insurance run in the 8th inning for the Grizzlies, while Richard Barrett picked up his 14th save of the season and his second in as many nights. Right-hander Ja'Vaun West (4-2) got the win with a scoreless inning of relief.

Gateway hits the road for a six-game road trip that starts Friday night against the Evansville Otters in Indiana. Right-hander Alex Kaminsky (9-4) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:35 CT.

Playoff tickets are now on sale through the Grizzlies Ticket Office. To get tickets, call 618.337.3000 or go online to gatewaygrizzlies.com.
