Grizzlies Sweep CornBelters; Magic Number Is Four

SAUGET, IL - The Gateway Grizzlies compiled 13 hits and cruised past the Normal CornBelters 11-7 Sunday night at GCS Ballpark to pick up the series sweep.

The win was the sixth in a row for the Grizzlies, who have recorded two straight series sweeps and eight overall this season. The win reduced the Grizzlies magic number to clinch the West Division to five.

Landon Hernandez paced the Grizzlies offense with a double, a home run and three RBI. Rogelio Noris had two hits and two RBI while Jon Myers had his second three-hit game of the series against Normal (28-62).

Gateway (54-36) led by as many as six runs during the two hour and 37 minute game that included a 31-minute rain delay in the middle of the fifth. The Grizzlies never trailed during the series.

Chris Enourato (5-4) made the start for the Grizzlies and collected the win after allowing only two runs in five innings. Zac Treece only pitched to one batter, but recorded his fourth save.

The first-place Grizzlies have an off day Monday before starting a three-game series with Traverse City Beach Bums in Michigan on Tuesday. Right-hander Paul Tremlin (6-3) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:05 CT.
