Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Gastonia, N.C. (June 11, 2015) - A tough night on the road started early for the Lexington County Blowfish, as the Gastonia Grizzlies marched to a 10-3 victory on Thursday night at Sims Legion Field.
Gastonia capitalized on several early opportunities, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. Blake Edwards highlighted the offensive explosion with a two-run triple into the gap in the second inning, immediately followed by a two-run home run into left center by Sammy Taormina, extending the Grizzlies' lead to 6-0.
Edwards fell a home run short of the cycle.
The Grizzlies would add runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to pad their advantage. Each Grizzlies starter reached base at least once due mostly in part to 15 hits and six walks.
The Blowfish would score in the third inning. Back-to-back singles by Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) and J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion), coupled with an error in right field, moved them into scoring position. Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) added another RBI to his total, reaching on a fielder's choice to score Williams.
They would also load the bases in the top of the ninth. Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida), Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University) and Kyle Bailey (Anderson University) would all reach base off of reliever Blake Drew. Williams' groundout to the pitcher would score Duty, and Edgeworth trotted home on a sacrifice fly by Crowe to cut the lead to seven.
The Blowfish will travel to Martinsville, Virginia for a matchup with the Mustangs on Friday night. Catch all of the action with a live broadcast on Z93.1 FM The Lake, and on the Blowfish Baseball mobile app.
A return home will occur on Saturday, when the Blowfish host the Forest City Owls at 7:05 p.m. for Frozen Night, Part 2.
