Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - For the second straight game, the Fayetteville SwampDogs were engaged in a game filled with late-inning drama, but this time the breaks did not go their way as they fell 6-5 at the hands of the Wilmington Sharks Thursday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The scoring got started in the top of the second inning, when the Sharks plated four runs against SwampDog starter Alex Siddle (Jr./Southeast Missouri), though only three were earned.

The Dogs would waste no time answering back, getting two of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning, when Mitch Roman (Jr./Wright State) led off the inning by drawing a walk, then scoring on an Austin Upshaw (Fr./Kennesaw State) double. Upshaw would score two batters later when Alex Liquori (Jr./Kennesaw State) doubled him home.

The Sharks struck for another run in the top of the fourth, but a two-run homer by Upshaw and an RBI single by Ki-Jana Madden (Fr./Spartanburg Methodist) knotted the score up at 5-5 after four.

The score kept at 5-5 until the ninth inning when Kent Williams (Jr./Indiana) would yield the winning run.

Williams got the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season, Michael Castellani got the win for Wilmington, improving to 1-1. Matthew Vogel got the save, his third of the season.

The SwampDogs (6-6) are back in action tomorrow night as they take on the Holly Springs Salamanders on the road, before returning home to square off against the Salamanders at "The Swamp" Saturday night on Military Appreciation Night presented by Rick Hendrick Toyota and USAA. The first 500 fans in attendance receive a camo hat courtesy of Rick Hendrick Toyota and Foxy 99. Reserve your tickets now by calling 910-426-5900.
