Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - As the 2015 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft wrapped up Wednesday night, six current and former Fayetteville SwampDogs players were selected.

The class was headlined by Austin Mason (Jr./The Citadel), who was drafted in the 17th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mason is a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher, touching 97 on the radar gun this summer with a devastating slider. Mason is tied for the Coastal Plain League lead in saves, with three.

Another member of the 2015 SwampDogs, left-handed pitcher Hunter Barnett (Jr./Mount Olive) was drafted in the 34th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. Barnett was a key member of the 2014 SwampDogs club, leading the pitching staff by making 19 appearances.

Rounding out the SwampDogs taken in the draft were Adam Walton of the 2013 SwampDogs (20th - Baltimore Orioles), Nick Blackburn of the 2013 SwampDogs (22nd - New York Mets), Drazen Johnson of the 2012 SwampDogs (26th - Colorado Rockies), and Ryan Nagle of the 2013 SwampDogs (27th - Pittsburgh Pirates).

The SwampDogs family would like to congratulate these six young men on being one step closer to their ultimate dreams of becoming Major League Baseball players. We wish them all the best as they embark on their professional careers.

The six players drafted in 2015 bring the total number of Fayetteville SwampDogs drafted to 90 in the 15-year existence of the team.
