Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham has announced the signings of forwards Mathieu Aubin, Brent Gwidt and Riley Armstrong as the team's first three player signings for the 2015-2016 season.

Aubin leads the Grizzlies in scoring since being acquired from Cincinnati on November 7, 2013 with 43 goals and 79 assists for 122 points in 140 regular season games. He has also led the team in plus-minus during that span with a plus-11. In 2014-2015, as he returned from a season ending neck injury on April 9, 2013, Aubin led the Grizzlies in scoring with 26 goals and 42 assists for 68 points in 72 games. The 28-year-old had 10 points in 11 games on one goal and nine assists during the 2015 playoffs. He was the first Grizzlies player to play in all 72 regular season games since the 2007-2008 season. Prior to coming to Utah, Aubin served as captain of the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones and won Kelly Cup Championships in 2008 and 2010 and a Calder Cup Championship with Hamilton of the AHL in 2009. He was the ECHL plus-performer of the year in 2011-2012 with a plus-25. Aubin was drafted in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft by Montreal in 2005. He ranks sixth all-time in ECHL history having appeared in 86 playoff games.

"Mathieu is a very smart hockey player and has been a consistent point producer for us now the past 2 years," said Branham. "We are very happy to have him back."

Gwidt enters his third full season in Utah and is the senior member of the team. He was originally signed out of the University of Nebraska-Omaha following his senior season of action for the conclusion of the 2012-2013 season. He served as an assistant captain during the 2014-2015 season and had six goals and five assists for 11 points in 26 games before suffering a season ending injury on January 9, 2015. He was captain during his senior season of college and was drafted by Washington in the sixth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2006.

"We are very excited to have Brent's leadership and work ethic back in our locker room," said Branham. "He was missed during the 2nd half of the season last year due to injury; but we know he has been training hard to get back into form."

Armstrong enters his third go-around with the Grizzlies where he played for the team in 2010-2011 and 2012-2013. He had 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points in 38 games while serving as the Grizzlies captain in 2012-2013. He had two assists in two games during a short stint in 2010-2011. He made his NHL debut November 28, 2008 for San Jose against Phoenix.

"Riley's skill and experience will be a welcome addition to our lineup," said Branham. "He will fit in nicely with the players we are bringing back to Utah."

The Grizzlies home opening weekend is Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 against the Allen Americans.

Grizzlies ticket packages start at $30 and can be purchased by calling (801) 988-8000. Visit utahgrizzlies.com for more information.
