Sauget, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies lost 9-1 to the Evansville Otters on Saturday night at GCS Ballpark, as Gateway's offense collected just one run on seven hits. The Grizzlies were down by just a single run until the eighth inning.

The Otters (55-39) struck first in the second inning as John Schultz lifted a sac fly to centerfield. Chris Riopedre delivered an RBI single against Gateway righty Adam Eggnatz to make it 2-0 in the third. Eggnatz (6-4) put together a solid outing in his final start of 2016, throwing five innings and allowing just one earned run.

Ben Waldrip gave the Grizzlies (43-51) their lone run with a solo homer to right field in the fifth. Waldrip's 12th shot of the season made it 2-1.

The score stayed that way until the eighth, as Evansville lefty Hunter Ackerman (7-6) tossed six innings and gave up just one run.

After tossing two scoreless frames in relief, Gateway RHP Ja'Vaun West gave up an unearned run in the eighth as the Otters took a 3-1 edge. Things unraveled for the Grizzlies in the ninth as RHP Jon Pusateri and RHP Will LaMarche combined to give up six runs.

Meanwhile, the Otters received another good night of bullpen work. RHP Tyler Levine tossed a scoreless seventh while RHP J.R. Edwards and RHP Randy McCurry finished the game with back-to-back scoreless innings.
