
Grizzlies Roll Past Crushers

AVON, OHIO. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, fell behind early and couldn't recover against the Gateway Grizzlies on Wednesday afternoon as they fell by the score of 7-1.
Gateway got to Crushers starter Alex Romero (6-6) in the second inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Grizzlies catcher Jhonniel Alvarez doubled in two runs. Blake Brown later reached on a fielder's choice, scoring a run and making it 3-0.
Gateway added two runs in the fifth inning when Trae Santos hit a two-run home run. That was his 14th home run of the season and second in the series.
Romero finished six inning while allowing five runs on 10 hits in the loss.
Gateway starter Max MacNabb (8-6) was solid in his start as the lefty went eight innings. He allowed just six hits and struck out two along the way.
The Grizzlies added two runs against reliever Luke Watts in the ninth inning when Blake Brown hit a two-run home run. That was his 13th home run of the year. Watts pitched 2.1 innings in relief for the Crushers.
Lake Erie finally got on the board in the ninth when Joel McKeithan homered, cutting the deficit to 7-1. McKeithan finished 4-4 and a triple shy of the cycle against his former team.
With the loss, the Crushers fall to 36-32 while Gateway improves to 30-40 with the win. The Crushers will turn to Oriel Caicedo (1-1) tomorrow while the Grizzlies hand the ball to lefty Alec Kisena (4-4). Game time is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
