MARION, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums(31-36) were locked up in two low scoring match-ups with the Southern Illinois Miners(33-32), dropping both games by 2-0 scores.
To start off game one, Southern Illinois got on the board first with an unearned run on a Chance Shepard RBI single. The Beach Bums threatened in a number of innings but ending up stranding eight throughout the 2-0 loss.
Geno Encino and John Havird locked up in a great pitcher's duel, each going the distance on the mound. Encino improved to 3-6 with the shutout win. He gave up three hits, and walked four. John Havird allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks, while striking out six. He falls to 3-7.
In game two's third inning, Max Dutto singled down the right field line then moved to second on a Joe Duncan sacrifice bunt. Romeo Cortina followed with a deep fly ball down the left field line that tucked in over the wall and infield the foul pole for a 2-0 lead that the Miners would keep throughout.
