Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The ECHL has announced that the Utah Grizzlies, proud affiliate of the New York Islanders, will remain in the West Division and that the National Conference playoff format will stay the same for the 2007-2008 season. The decision was made following last week's Annual Board of Governors Meetings, which were held, just outside Las Vegas, Nevada.
For the third consecutive season, the Grizzlies will be in the same division as Alaska, Idaho, Phoenix and Victoria.
The Pacific Division will consist of Las Vegas, Fresno, Stockton and Bakersfield with the only difference being the absence of the departed Long Beach Ice Dogs.
The playoff format will remain the same with eight National Conference teams qualifying for the postseason.
"We look forward to playing exclusively in the National Conference this upcoming season," said Grizzlies Senior Vice President and COO Michael Schetzel. "Each game will be an important piece in postseason seeding."
Also at the meetings, it was announced that the league has unanimously approved a request from Reno for a one-year extension to work on their home arena situation.
The Grizzlies open the 2007-2008 season on Friday, October 19 at US Airways Center in Downtown Phoenix visiting the RoadRunners. The home opener for the Grizzlies is Friday, October 26 versus Idaho.
The Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL, enter their third season in America's "Premier AA Hockey League."
