Beeman Returns for Second Season as Wildcatter
June 19, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release
BEAUMONT, TX (June 19, 2007) - Texas Wildcatters Head Coach Malcolm Cameron announced today the team has signed forward Jason Beeman to a contract for the 2007-08 season. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Beeman, a scrappy 5'11'', 213 lb. forward who registered 25 points (8G-17A) and 155 PIM over 73 regular season and playoff games for the Wildcatters in 2006-07, is the first announced signing for the 2007-08 season.
While better known for his physical play in the corners and occasional fights, Cameron expects Beeman's role to grow into one of goal scorer as he enters his second full season in the ECHL. "Jason is tough as nails and is certainly capable of putting the puck in the net. While it was not his role last year, we certainly see him as more of an offensive contributor this season. We are extremely excited to have him back in the fold for another year"
Beeman, who registered 60 points (29G-31A) in 65 games with the Tri-City Americans of the WHL in 2005-06, is glad to be remaining in Southeast Texas and eagerly anticipates what he views as a return to a role that comes naturally for him. "It's great to be back, to continue to build tradition here with Coach Cameron,'' the 21-year old forward said from his Los Angeles home Tuesday, "I want to put more goals in the net this season but still play that physical role, and it's great to be doing it as a Wildcatter."
Opening Day for the ECHL's 20th Anniversary Season will be Oct. 18 when the Johnstown Chiefs host the Wheeling Nailers at Cambria County War Memorial in a rematch of Game 7 from the first-ever ECHL Finals.
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that will have 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams include the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals.
The Texas Wildcatters are the ECHL affiliate of the AHL's Houston Aeros. Be part of the Wildcatter's Fifth Anniversary Season in Southeast Texas! The Wildcatters host the rival Florida Everblades for the 2007-08 Home Opener on Saturday, Oct. 27! Season tickets are on sale now. Log on to www.wildcattershockey.com or call (409) 951-5500.
