Grizzlies, Rascals Preview Sonic Crosstown Clash This Weekend

The Gateway Grizzlies and River City Rascals will preview the 2003 Sonic Crosstown Clash this weekend with three pre-season games. Friday night the two teams will play at 7:05 at the Rascals' T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, MO, Saturday the contest will shift to the Grizzlies' GMC Stadium, before the two teams will wrap up pre-season action with a 2:05 Sunday at Hughes Ballpark. Tickets for all three games remain at regular season prices.

The Grizzlies and Rascals will open the 11th Frontier League season Friday May 23 when the Sonic Crosstown renews for real at GMC Stadium. It will be the first of a three-game series to start the 2003 season, and the first of 18 Sonic Crosstown Clash games between the two teams this season.

The Grizzlies have a wealth of activities planned for next Friday May 23 as they kick off their third season, and second in GMC Stadium.

The party will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a pre-game rally in the stadium parking lot. Local favorites the Smash Band will take to the stage to perform live, booths will be set up selling food and drink, and gates will open at 5:00 p.m. St. Clair Emergency Group will be out with fire trucks and police cars, both will be available for photographs, and accepting donations.

Once inside fans will receive a 2003 magnet schedule courtesy of Chevys Fresh Mex. Plus fans can enter a jalapeno-eating contest for a chance to win a trip for two to Cancun, Mexico courtesy of Ambassador Travel in Belleville and Worry Free Vacations. Fans can also take part in a Tom Arnold Look-Alike Contest, for the chance at great prizes.

Local media will be heavily involved during next Friday's events. Fox Sports Net will televise the game on a tape-delayed basis. The game will air Saturday May 24 at 4:00 p.m. Personalities from local Fox affiliate Fox2 will be out during the celebration. Fansports Radio KFNS will also be broadcasting live from 3-6 from the stadium. KFNS 590 AM, will also be carrying the game live in addition to the Grizzlies flagship station, WSMI 106.1 FM, and the Grizzlies radio network-WNSV 104.7 FM, and KJFF 1400 AM. Grizzlies broadcaster Joe Pott will team with Rascals broadcaster Phil Giubileo to broadcast all 18 Sonic Crosstown Clash games this summer.

A limited number of tickets remain for next Friday's opener and the entire three game series at GMC Stadium. Tickets are $8.00 for reserved box seats, and $5.00 for lawn seats. Tickets are available by calling the Grizzlies at 618-337-3000, or online at www.gatewaygrizzlies.com.
