Grizzlies Hire Assistant Head Coach and Line Coach Ed Flanagan

airbanks, AK.12.05.2009. Ricky Bertz, General Manager of the Fairbanks Grizzlies announced the signing of Ed Flanagan as Assistant Head Coach and Line Coach for the 2009 season. Coach Flanagan has over 12 years of coaching experience at multiple levels, most recently as the line coach for the division champion Quad City Steamwheelers of the AF2. Flanagan has also held coaching positions with the San Diego Riptide of the AF2, Milwaukee Mustangs and Arizona Rattlers of the AFL. Coach Flanagan has also coached on the college level with San Bernadino California College in addition to Chaffey College. Flanagan has also coached on the professional level with the USFL Oakland Invaiders. This will be the third year that Flanagan has coach with Fairbanks Grizzlies Head Coach Sean Ponder.

In addition to Coach Flanagan's coaching experience, he also brings with him a well accomplished football playing career. Prior to coaching, Flanagan played for the NFL's Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers from 1965-1976. The four-time NFL Pro-Bowl offensive lineman played his first 10 seasons with the Detroit Lions before finishing his career playing two season in San Diego. Flanagan was inducted earlier this year into the "All 75 Year Anniversary Team" after being recognized by the Detroit Lions organization as being the top player at his position for the past 75 years.

Coach Flanagan is really excited about beginning his first coaching season with the Fairbanks Grizzlies. He currently resides in North Glenn, Colorado with his wife Tina and his son Dan.
