
Fairbanks Grizzlies Hire Defensive Coordinator David Deaton

Fairbanks, AK.12.05.2009. Ricky Bertz, General Manager of the Fairbanks Grizzlies announced the signing of David Deaton as Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Coach Deaton brings with him a very diverse and accomplished football coaching career, having coached on the High School, College and Professional Football levels through out his 13 years of coaching experience. In addition, Deaton is a college graduate from the University of Texas.
Coach Deaton played college football for the University of Oklahoma making the team as a walk-on. Coach Deaton was head coach of the Texas Coyotes of the NAFL for two years prior to being defensive coordinator for three years and offensive coordinator for two years with the organization. Coach Deaton also has 4 years of college football experience as he was the Head Coach at Trinity University for two years after being the offensive line and strength and conditioning coach for two years prior. Coach Deaton also has eleven years of high school football coaching experience that he brings to the team.
Coach Deaton carries high expectations for players both on and off the field. He personally believes that though athletics he can help ready individuals for the struggles that lie ahead of them in life. Coach Deaton strives to instill self-discipline and self confidence in his players. He believes that through actions his players may "Go Forward and do the tasks ahead of them to the best of their ability, do it the right way the first time, and no one should be able to criticize your performance. There is only one way to do things, the right way".
Like many other Fairbanks residents, Coach Deaton moved to Alaska recently with his wife Nicolle who is an officer in the United States Army and is currently stationed at Fort Wainwright. Coach Deaton enters his first year with great expectations, and looks forward to the challenges of playing in the United States largest professional indoor football league, the IFL.
