Grizzlies Fall to Crushers in Series Opener

SAUGET, IL - The Lake Erie Crushers piled on seven runs in the first inning and cruised to a 9-3 win over the Gateway Grizzlies at GCS Ballpark on Tuesday night.
The Crushers scored seven runs on six hits to open the scoring in the first inning. The first seven batters of the game reached base against Gateway starter Brad Stone. Kyle Shaffer capped off the big first inning for Lake Erie with a grand slam to right field.
Gateway made the score 7-2 in the third on a two-run home run by Joe Agreste, his fifth of the season.
Lake Erie extended their lead with two runs in the fourth. Nick Mahin drove in a run on a single and Andrew Davis scored a run with a double.
Gateway finished off the scoring in the sixth inning, getting a solo home run from Charlie Lisk, his team-best ninth of the season.
The Grizzlies resume their six-game home stand on Wednesday with game two against the Lake Erie Crushers. Corey Davisson (0-2) will take the mound for Gateway. First pitch is set for 7:05.
