O'Fallon, Mo. - River City was shut out on just two hits by the Washington WildThings who rode starter Justin Edwards (1-2) no-hit bid through 6 1/3 innings en-route to an 8-0 win. Despite the loss, the Southern Illinois Miners fell to Joliet allowing the Rascals to clinch the best first-half record, sending the manager Steve Brook and his staff to Lake Erie to coach the West-Division All-Stars.

Rascals' starter Zack Sterner (5-1) lost for the first time this season, allowing five earned runs in five innings of work on five hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Washington took a 1-0 lead in the second on an Eric Stephens RBI single and stretched the lead to 3-0 in the fifth while River City's offense sputtered at the plate.

The WildThings (18-24) scored four runs on four hits; including two homeruns, in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead before River City got their first hit from Jareck West in the seventh.

Chris Sidick homered to start the ninth to make it 8-0 and the Rascals added a double from Stephen Holdren in the bottom of the frame.

Game two of this three-game series is set for 7:05 Wednesday as Zach Robertson takes the mound for River City against Gary Lee.
