July 8, 2022 - California League (CalL)
San Jose Giants News Release

The Fresno Grizzlies posted their second straight convincing victory over the Giants with an 8-1 win on Thursday night at Chukchansi Park. San Jose (46-32, 6-6 second half) has now allowed a total of 21 runs in the last two games of the series having been outscored by a 21-3 margin.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings on Thursday and never looked back on their way to victory. Trevor McDonald started on the mound for the Giants and surrendered back-to-back doubles to Juan Brito and Benny Montgomery to begin the bottom of the first as Fresno went ahead early by a 1-0 score. After McDonald put up a zero in the second, the Grizzlies rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third. Consecutive singles from Montgomery and Yanquiel Fernandez to start the inning put runners on the corners with none out. Juan Guerrero then hit a potential double play grounder to third, but Yorlis Rodriguez mishandled the ball for an error. The miscue allowed Montgomery to score to make it 2-0. McDonald came back to retire the next two hitters, but two straight RBI singles from Bryant Quijada and Aiverson Rodriguez followed for a 4-0 Fresno advantage. All three runs against McDonald in the bottom of the third were unearned.

Meanwhile, McCade Brown, the California League Pitcher of the Month for June, had a masterful start for the Grizzlies. Brown began his outing with five scoreless innings yielding only three hits. Trailing by a run, San Jose had a golden opportunity in the top of the third as Anyesber Sivira led off with a double before Rayner Santana reached on an error to put runners on the corners. Sivira though was doubled off at third on Alexander Suarez's soft lineout to shortstop and Grant McCray struck out to abruptly end the inning.

The Giants' only run of the night came in the top of the sixth as Brown issued a leadoff walk to McCray and then uncorked a wild pitch. Two batters later, Carter Williams produced an RBI single into center as McCray scored bringing San Jose within 4-1.

Fresno though immediately grabbed back the momentum in the bottom of the inning. With Jose Cruz on the mound, Brito singled with one out and then Fernandez with two down crushed an 0-2 pitch over the fence in deep center for a two-run homer. The home run was Fernandez's 10th of the season and it pushed the Grizzlies lead to 6-1.

Fresno scored their final two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Yorvis Torrealba hit a two-out, two-RBI single off of Ofelky Peralta to make it an 8-1 contest.

Brown earned the win for the Grizzlies after surrendering only run over his six innings. Brown gave up four hits, walked one and struck out six.
