Grizzlies Blown out by Florence

Gateway Grizzlies News Release
Sauget, IL - The Gateway Grizzlies surrendered 11 runs in the second inning, including nine with two outs, falling behind early and never recovering in a 17-4 loss to the Florence Y'alls on Wednesday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.
Florence got the scoring started in the top of the first inning when, after two strikeouts by Gateway starter Taylor Sugg (4-2), Brennan Price hit a solo home run to give the Y'alls the 1-0 lead. The Grizzlies then answered in kind when Kevin Krause also hit a solo home run with two outs in the bottom half, his third in as many games, to quickly tie the game 1-1.
The game would take an unfortunate turn in the top of the second inning, as Florence scored 11 runs on six hits, including a trio of two-out, three-run home runs, with 14 men coming to the plate in all as they took a commanding 12-1 lead.
After Andrew Penner hit a solo home run to right field to make it 12-2 in the sixth, Florence again put together another big inning, plating five more runs on six hits, including another home run by Price, to make it 17-2. In the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Krause and Isaac Benard hit back-to-back solo home runs to complete the scoring at 17-4, but it was far too little to make a rally as they lost the opener of the brief, two-game set.
The Grizzlies will look to earn a split of the two contests in the series finale on Thursday night, at 6:45 p.m. CT. J.P. Williams will start on the mound for Gateway against Edgar Martinez for Florence.
