Fairbanks Grizzlies News Release

January 5, 2011. The Fairbanks Grizzlies are pleased to announce the signing of Defensive End Steven Smith Jr. and Defensive Back Donta Green. Smith, a 6'2" 255lb Defensive End from Kentucky Wesleyan was a four year starter for the Panthers and an All-GLFC selection on the defensive line. Green, a 6' 212 Defensive Back from Indiana University at Pennsylvania (IUP) was a three year starter and a two-time All-PSAC selection for the Crimson Hawks.

Smith, a native of Indianapolis IN, caught the attention of Grizzlies Head Coach Robert Fuller at the All American Bowl All Star game for Division 2 and 3 players in Minneapolis, MN, last month. "Steve really impressed me with his athleticism and his motor, he was a disruptive force and never stopped hustling," stated Coach Fuller. Green, a native of Pittsburgh PA, was an All Star QB in High School before earning Rookie of the Year honors at running back as a freshman at Bethany College. Green transferred to IUP and became a defensive standout. "Donta is an amazing athlete and can play almost anywhere on the defense. At IUP he lined up at linebacker, safety, and corner and was a play maker at each. Donta and Steven bring a lot to our football team and both are great young men" said Fuller.

The Fairbanks Grizzlies are proud members of the Indoor Football League (IFL). The 2011 season kicks off in February. Season tickets for the Grizzlies 2011 season are available for purchase for as low as $19 a month. Call (907) 452-5123 for details.
