Utah Grizzlies News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Utah Grizzlies mascot "Grizzbee" was recently awarded a very prestigious honor being named the Salt Lake City Weekly's Best Sports Mascot in Utah.

The honor for the ornery bear came in the Weekly's Best of Utah 2003. The poll covered various media, political, and sports categories.

"If dressing up in an oversized animal costume and alternately entertaining jaded hockey fans and their kids is an art, then Grizzbee is equal parts Baryshnikov and Chaplin," the article stated. "No mascot in Utah works harder*Thanks to the intermissions between periods, Grizzbee works the equivalent of two halftimes, and he doesn't have sexy cheerleaders to help entertain the slackjaws*he's got the Jazz Bear and the Ute's Swoop beat furry-hands down. And don't even try to bring up Cosmo (the Brigham Young Cougar)."

Grizzbee will be making an off-season appearance on Monday in the Foundation for Children and Youth with Diabetes Celebrity Golf Classic at Stonebridge Golf Club in West Valley City. The award-winning mascot has also signed on to participate in the "Back to School- Shop with the Sheriff Event" in August.

Per team policy, Grizzbee had no comment on receiving the honor.
