
Griffins Shutout Bulldogs 3-0

HAMILTON, Ontario - The Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-0 on Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum.
Grand Rapids opened scoring at 14:14 of the first period on a shorthanded goal. Griffins forward Chris Conner stole the puck from Hamilton defenceman Mark Mitera and scored on a short breakaway, sliding a backhand shot between the legs of Bulldogs goaltender Nathan Lawson.
Grand Rapids took a 2-0 lead at 1:07 of the second period on a goal by Gustav Nyquist. Joakim Andersson slid a pass over the blue line to Conner who the proceeded to take a shot which was blocked, but Nyquist picked up the rebound and backhanded the puck into the top of the Hamilton Bulldogs net.
The Griffins added to their lead at 15:55 of the middle stanza. With his team short-handed, Conner beat Hamilton defenceman Frederic St-Denis to a loose puck, raced into the Bulldogs zone on a breakaway, made a forehand-to-backhand deke and slid the puck between Lawson's legs. The goal was Conner's second unassisted short-handed goal of the game.
Grand Rapids goaltender Joey MacDonald stopped all 31 Hamilton shots to register his first shutout win of the season.
The Bulldogs' next game is scheduled for Friday, October 21st at 7:35 p.m. versus the Americans at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York.
