Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Monday released left wing Ryan Barnes, leaving 20 players on their roster as they prepare for this Friday's regular season opener against the Cleveland Barons at Van Andel Arena.

Barnes, who was attending Griffins training camp on a tryout, played 69 games for the team last season, compiling 19 points (6-13—19) and tying for the club lead with 175 penalty minutes. He also made his NHL debut in two games with the Detroit Red Wings, going scoreless. In 142 games over two seasons (2002-04) with Grand Rapids, Barnes totaled 30 points (11-19—30) and 326 PIM.

Approximately 1,000 tickets remain for Friday's "Griffins Opening Night," presented by Foremost Insurance. The first 5,000 fans will receive a pair of Foremost CheerStix, and everyone will get a Griffins magnetic schedule. Fans will enjoy a pre-game laser and pyrotechnics show, and world famous Lou "Simon Says" Goldstein will entertain the crowd during intermission.

Single ticket prices are $5, $13 and $15 in the arena's upper bowl, and $17, $20 and $25 in the lower bowl.
