GREAT FALLS, MONT - Jon Griffin became the fourth Osprey player to homer twice in one game this season, and finished the game with three hits and four RBIs as the Missoula Osprey picked up a 5-3 win over the Great Falls Voyagers here at Centene Stadium on Saturday in front of 1,325 fans.
Griffin joins Eric Groff, Roidany Aguila and Tom Belza with two-homer games this season for the Osprey. Griffin also becomes the 26th member of the Osprey to have a multi-homer game.
Missoula (25-13) scored first, when Groff nailed a two-out single to left field - extending his current hit streak to 16 games, tied for the fourth-longest in club history - in the top of the first inning, and Griffin followed up with a two-run homer to deep right-center field. Great Falls (17-21) responded with a run of their own in the home half of the inning to draw within 2-1.
The Osprey added a run in the top of the fourth inning, on a Roidany Aguila single that plated Ryan Court, but the Voyagers would score twice in response in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 3-all. Aguila would finish the game with a pair of hits.
Griffin played a role in un-knotting that tie, with a run-scoring single with two out in the top of the fifth that scored Fidel Pena, giving Missoula a 4-3 lead, then added some more cushion with his second home run of the game in the top of the eighth, a solo shot to straightaway center field - over the wall 415 feet from home plate.
Jesse Darrah pitched well, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks in five innings of work, while striking out eight batters. Conrad Flynn pitched three innings of shutout relief, striking out four batters. DJ Johnson pitched the ninth, pitching around a two-out walk to pick up his third save of the season.
The Osprey and Voyagers will finish their three-game series here at Centene Stadium on Sunday, which will be the first game of the second half of the 2011 season. The Osprey will send left-hander Taylor Siemens to the mound, while the Voyagers will counter with left-hander Jarrett Casey.
The Osprey will return home for a five-game homestand on Wednesday, August 3. Tickets for all remaining games this season are now on sale at the MSO Hub Box Office, located at 140 N. Higgins, by phone at (406) 543-3300 or online at MissoulaOsprey.com.
