Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's were dealt their second straight loss Sunday afternoon at The Arena at TD Place, this time at the hands of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds held onto an early lead, and won the final game of their three-game road trip. With the loss, Ottawa now sits ninth in the eastern conference, with a record of 3-6-1.
Head coach and GM Jeff Brown says the team just needs a few bounces in their direction to get the monkey off their back.
"It's just one of those things," Brown said. "We've been getting stellar goaltending and our penalty kill has been unbelievable."
The 67's penalty kill worked well, stopping all seven Greyhounds power play chances.
The game began in a familiar way for the 67's - with a scoreless first period for both teams.
Sault Ste. Marie eventually opened the scoring in the second. Ottawa-native Zach Senyshyn found some room in the slot, and rifled a shot off the stick of a 67's defender and in.
The Greyhounds would make it 2-0 early in the final frame, with Hayden Verbeek spinning around in the right circle and posting in a shot on the far side of Ottawa netminder Olivier Lafrenière.
Ottawa would break out soon after on the man advantage. Patrick White teamed up with rookies Peter Stratis and Kody Clark for a tic-tac-toe passing play that ended with White depositing a one-timer on the backdoor for his third goal of the season.
Despite a feisty third period effort from Ottawa, the Greyhounds added an insurance marker at 12:28. Tim Gettinger iced the game, scoring an empty net goal with 20 seconds remaining.
The 67's leave town and head north for a three-game road trip with stops in North Bay (Thursday), Sault Ste. Marie (Saturday) and Sudbury (Sunday), before returning home October 29 for a date with the first-place Hamilton Bulldogs at 2 p.m.
